WHAT TO DO

To blitz your lockdown love handles, try a plank with alternating frog legs, says celebrity personal trainer Nadya Fairweather (u-shape.co.uk).

A plank is a great exercise to activate core muscles. However, if you really want to isolate the excess fat around your hips and the side of your waist, try adding in alternating wide knee kicks. It looks like you are doing frog legs side to side.

Aim to bring your knee towards your armpit and keep your movement slow and controlled. Try for ten reps, rest for ten and repeat. Build up to three to five sets, then add more reps as you get stronger.

WHAT TO EAT

Your diet can help tone the sides of your waist, says nutritionist Amanda Hamilton (amandahamilton.com).

Fibre is a must when it comes to shifting love handles, but try to boost your intake with vegetables rather than starchier carbohydrates such as rice or pasta.

Increasing vegetable intake will also aid digestion, helping you beat the bloat so your belly can feel flatter, too. Weather too cold for salad? Try fibre-filled slaws made with red cabbage and apple instead.

Empty calories from alcohol often end up as fat around the middle. Good intentions also fly out the window after that second drink. Try alternatives such as alcohol-free botanical gin and low-sugar tonic.
