Joseph Gordon-Levitt honors his late brother Dan on what would have been his 46th birthday…10 years after his tragic passing

In 2010, his brother Dan Gordon-Levitt tragically passed away at the age of 36 from an alleged drug overdose.

And actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt took to Twitter on Monday to pay tribute to Dan on what would have been his 46th birthday.

‘Today’s my brother dan’s birthday,’ began the 39-year-old. ‘He and I started @hitrecord together a long time ago. We all miss him, been ten years now since he died.’

Joseph and Dan are the brains behind HitRecord, which launched in 2005 and acts as a space for creative collaboration.

Gordon-Levitt continued: ‘I love seeing art inspired by him. Draw him, write about him, talk about him, whatever.’

He then encouraged his 4.1million followers to head over to HitRecord and post stories, art, photos, etc. pertaining to his late brother.

‘We’ve done various projects in honor of my brother here on hitRECord over the years. But there isn’t really a catch-all place to just contribute anything about him,’ explained Joseph on HitRecord in 2016.

The 500 Days Of Summer star noted that fans have posted drawings, poetry, etc. on Dan’s Facebook page over the years, but that he wanted there to be a specific section of HitRecord dedicated solely to Dan’s legacy.

‘Maybe you have a story about an experience you and he had together. Maybe you have some photos you took of him. Maybe you drew him or something. People post stuff like that on his facebook page, but there ought to be a place on HITRECORD.

‘So since today, July 27th, is his birthday, I thought it’d be a good day to start it,’ wrote Joseph, who hinted at maybe turning the droves of Dan content into a book ‘or perhaps a documentary.’

‘But regardless of any longer term goals like that, I’d just like there to be a place on the site where we gather a bunch of stuff about him. EXCELSIOR! <3,’ concluded Joseph.
