Dream dinners: Fresh figs dipped in dark chocolate and nuts
Figs and dark chocolate are both rich in magnesium, making them a good combination for an evening dessert. But remember not to eat the chocolate too late and only in moderation.
MAKES 12
PREP 15 minutes
SETTING TIME 30 minutes – 2 hours
175g dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
12 fresh figs
60g finely chopped walnuts
- Chop the chocolateinto pieces and place in heatproof bowl suspended over a pan of simmering water. When the chocolate melts, remove from the heat. (Alternatively, melt the chocolate in a microwave.)
- Take a fig and, holding it by its stem, carefully dip the round end into the melted chocolate, coating to about halfway. Shake off any excess.
- Dip the fig’s chocolate-coated end into the chopped walnuts and place on a tray lined with greaseproof paper. Repeat with the remaining figs.
- Leave in a cool place for 2 hours until the chocolate sets hard, or chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to three days.
TIP If you can’t find fresh figs, you can use dried figs (the plumper the better) instead.
