Tens of thousands of homes and businesses across Sydney’s eastern suburbs have been plunged into darkness during the middle of lockdown.

Sydneysiders took to Twitter to seek answers on the sudden blackout, with residents from Coogee, Randwick, Hillsdale and Maroubra all affected by the sudden outage.

One resident from Banksmeadow in the city’s south said they had also lost power, with another tweeting the entire University of New South Wales was down.

Ausgrid replied to the influx of messages from concerned residents.

‘Power is currently out to customers in Banksmeadow, Botany, Eastgardens and surrounding suburbs. Our crew are working to safely restore power’, they said.

Ausgrid also tweeted that power is currently out to their customers in Centennial Park, Clovelly, Coogee and surrounding suburbs, as well as in Mascot.

Multiple residents said they were having trouble accessing the Ausgrid website to receive further information on the blackout or an estimated repair time.
