Coffee lovers worried about having bad breath are in luck with the creation of the world’s first caffeine beverage that leaves drinkers feeling minty fresh.

Melbourne-based coffee roastery Undercover Roasters have released their Mint Mocha drink which features a ball of milk chocolate that’s been infused with liquified Eclipse mints.

The chocolate orb is dropped into a regular cup of espresso and melts – leaving the drinker with minty breath.

Hakan Bilal, the founder of Undercover Roasters and mastermind behind the unique new coffee flavour, said the team worked tirelessly to get the right taste.

‘The idea behind our Mint Mocha is, by the time you finish your coffee, you’ll be drinking the melted down orb,’ he said.

‘Meaning the last thing you’ll taste is Eclipse mints. A flavour that’ll leave you with fresher breath than you’d receive from your standard coffee.’

He said the process involved grinding the right amount of mints into a thermomix, melting them into a liquid.

This minty liquid is then injected into the chocolate orb which is dropped into a customer’s coffee.

‘It may seem odd, but coffee and spearmint is a unique flavour combination that serves as a surprise and delight to the palate,’ Mr Bilal said.

‘We experimented with the flavour over multiple hours, until we felt the aroma and taste of our house coffee blend was complemented by the percentage of minty fresh aftertaste.’

From next week the drink will also be sold in cafes Turning Point in Ripponlea, Short Straw in Hawthorn and Collective Espresso in Camberwell.

Customers who have tried the drink said they were surprised to notice their coffees didn’t leave them with a stale breath.

‘I had doubts it would taste nice. I like spearmint as a flavour as well as coffee. But never thought combining the two would actually work,’ Kiran Arunasalam said.

‘It tastes good. Chocolat-ey, and very minty fresh. Definitely leaves you with a fresher breath.’

Another customer, Brooke McAuley, said she found the drink ‘delicious’.

‘This’ll no doubt become a weekly ritual, especially if I’m drinking coffee with friends,’ she said.
