Keen to escape the cold? Queensland is offering 36,000 FREE vouchers to visit its sunny shores – here’s how you can claim them

  • Queensland has announced a new scheme to boost their tourism industry
  • Travel vouchers worth $100 available for tourist attractions in Greater Brisbane
  • Vouchers worth up to $200 on offer for tourism experiences in Whitsundays

Queensland will offer up 36,000 free travel vouchers in a bid to stimulate the Sunshine State’s tourism industry.

There will be 30,000 vouchers worth $100 available for tourism experiences in Greater Brisbane and a further 6,000 vouchers worth $200 up for grabs for the Whitsundays.

The vouchers will be available to Queensland residents aged over 18.

Residents can register their interest in vouchers for the Greater Brisbane region – including Scenic Rim, Moreton Bay, Redlands Coast, Somerset, Logan and Ipswich – online between 12pm on April 27 and 11:59am on April 30.

Those who receive a voucher, which can be redeemed for 50 per cent off tours, attractions or accommodation up to $100, will be contacted from May 6, with bookings to be made by June 4, for travel by August 15.

The Whitsundays vouchers can be used to claim 50 per cent off any eligible tourism experience booked, up to a maximum of $200.

Those vouchers are available to locals and visitors who are in the region from May 4 to June 30.

‘In the Whitsundays, accommodation bookings are quite strong but we want to encourage more people to take up these special tourism experiences like Great Barrier Reef trips, guided tours, or scenic flights,’ Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

‘6000 vouchers valued up to $200 each are available for people already staying in the region through local hotels or visitor information centres from May 4.

‘Whitsundays Holiday Dollars can be used for experiences across the region, including the Whitsunday Islands, the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Coast.’

Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe told ABC Radio: ‘While our tourism industry has generally, on the domestic side, bounced back, there are still challenges. That international border closure has an impact.

‘We’ve got so many domestic visitors visiting their usual domestic spots, this is about making sure we target the response and help those parts of the industry that are international focused.

‘We’ve got to help stimulate and encourage people to do something they haven’t done before (in Brisbane)… climb the Story Bridge, go kayaking on the Brisbane River, get out and stay overnight in the Scenic Rim, stay in a CBD hotel.

‘This is going to generate $90m for local businesses who have been waiting for the international visitors we’ve been missing.’
