Celebrity Big Brother set to return with a new name after 19 year hiatus – and fans have already started guessing who might sign up

Celebrity Big Brother Australia will be back in 2021.

Channel Seven announced the news in a press release on Tuesday, revealing the reality show will have a new name – Big Brother VIP.  

The statement read: ‘The new season of Big Brother looks fantastic. We can’t wait for Australia to meet this year’s amazing collection of housemates and to start discovering the many surprises and twists we have built into the show.

‘With anticipation for the new season building, the time is right to commission Big Brother VIP. The celebrity format is a proven success around the world. 

‘It was a hit here in Australia almost two decades ago and we’re looking forward to introducing a whole new generation of celebrities to Big Brother.’

Fans have already begun guessing who might like to take part, with Instagram account The Wash suggesting Married At First Sight star Nasser Sultan would be first in line.

In the comments below The Wash’s post, punters suggested the likes of Today host Karl Stefanovic, as well as Married At First Sight’s bisexual groom Liam Cooper. 

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Australia host and comedian Julia Morris was also suggested. 

Celebrity Big Brother last aired in 2002, and starred Kyle Sandilands, Warwick Capper, Anthony Mundine and Red Symons, among others – with TV presenter Dylan Lewis crowned the winner.

Meanwhile, the new season of Big Brother Australia is set to screen soon, with Sonia Kruger rerunning as host of the highly anticipated second season. 

Three contestants have already been announced, including 21-year-old, a student from Sydney, Tilly Whitfeld. 

She will join 48-year-old real estate agent Daniel Hayes, and author and fashionista Sarah Jane Adams, 65.  

Last year, international model Chad Hurst won the series and the cash prize in July’s live finale as the result of receiving the most public votes by viewers.
