  • Instead of cutting of the top of the stem, she slice along the natural grooves
  • She peeled the slices, almost like a flower, then cut each one away from the stalk

Leah Itsines, the younger foodie sister of fitness star Kayla Itsines, has shared a video showing a ‘game-changing’ way to cut a capsicum in just seconds.

Instead of cutting off the top of the stem, the cookbook author, from Adelaide, used a knife to slice along the natural grooves to separate into wedges.

Using her hands, she peeled the slices, almost like a flower, then cut each one away from the stalk with all of the seeds attached.

‘I bloody love TikTok hacks and this one I will absolutely do all the time. I laughed so much after this because I thought, why wasn’t this obvious from the start?’ she said in her now-viral Instagram video.

After discovering the ‘life hack’ on TikTok, Leah thought the new simple method was a great way to cut capsicum ‘better’.

Rather than cutting the capsicum from a horizontal angle, she sliced it from the bottom down to its stalk.

‘In the lining of each section, you’re going to put your knife all the way down,’ she said, adding you’d need to repeat the step until all the grooves are sliced.

‘Then you basically [peel away] and cut it [from its stem]. Then we’re going to go around and do the rest.’

Stunned by the trick, a thrilled Leah – who has more than 550,000 Instagram followers – said the method will change the way she cuts capsicum ‘forever’, and she was also amazed at how it helps reduce wastage.

Her video has since been more than 50,000 times, with many saying they have been cutting capsicum differently their whole lives.

Dozens described the trick as ‘epic’, ‘game changer’, ‘life changing’ and ‘genius’, while others said they couldn’t wait to test out the cutting method at home.

‘Oh my god, never even though of that,’ one said, while another added: ‘I always cut the stem off first… will now totally follow this hack.’

However, many revealed the method wasn’t new to them.

‘My mind is blown that this is a hack, it’s how I’ve always cut capsicum! It just makes sense… how have people not realised this before?’ one wrote, while another added: ‘That’s how I’ve been doing it for years.’
