The Simpsons renewed for two more seasons.. as the longest running primetime scripted show in TV history is set to celebrate 700th episode

The Simpsons, the longest running primetime scripted show, has been renewed for two more seasons.

The series is renewed for season 33 and season 34 at Fox, according to Variety.

It is currently airing its 32nd season, with its landmark 700th episode set to debut on March 21.

In 2000, The Simpsons received their Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

They already surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest running primetime scripted show in TV history after the animated series’ 29th season.

The creator of the cartoon, Matt Groening, released a statement after the show’s renewal: ‘Everyone at “The Simpsons” is thrilled to be renewed once more, and we are planning lots of big surprises,’ per Variety.

He continued: ‘Homer will lose a hair, Milhouse will get contact lenses, and Bart will celebrate his tenth birthday for the thirty-third time.’

The show’s first episode aired on December 17, 1989. 

The show has won numerous awards, including: 34 Emmy Awards, 9 Environmental Media Awards, 7 People’s Choice Awards, 34 Annie Awards, 13 Writers Guild of America Award, and an Institutional Peabody Award in 2019.

It was also the first animated series to win a Peabody Award, the outlet reported. 

It’s almost been nominated for an Academy Awards in 2012; there was a feature film that was released in 2007, grossing over $527 million worldwide.

Matt is also an executive producer alongside James L. Brooks and Al Jean. 

The news comes a week after it was revealed that Kevin Michael Richardson will replace Harry Shearer as Dr. Hibbert on the show, per Variety.

In June 2020, the producers of the Simpsons said they will no longer cast white actors to play non white characters.
