WHAT TO DO

To get outside for a cardio workout, try high-intensity bench burpees, says celebrity personal trainer Nadya Fairweather (u-shape.co.uk).

If you are in the park, try these on every bench on your walk or run.

Put your hands on the lower seated part of the bench. Jump your feet out so you go into a high plank position. Then, jump them back in close to the bench. Jump up straight, hands to the sky.

Then back to hands on the bench, jump out, jump in, jump up. Start with five per bench per circuit. Increase by two per bench per week.

WHAT TO EAT

Nutritionist Amanda Hamilton (amandahamilton.com) says protein is often overlooked when it comes to post-workout snacking, but is especially important if the exercise was high intensity. A protein boost in the form of a natural yoghurt, a half cup of cottage cheese or a smoothie boosted with beautifying collagen can repair and replenish.

Prep a recovery post-workout smoothie with a small banana (freeze the banana for extra creaminess) a large handful of iron-rich spinach leaves and unsweetened oat or almond milk. Add a teaspoon of nut butter for an added boost of zinc and selenium, and a squeeze of lemon or lime juice to aid absorption of iron.
