MAFS newlyweds James and Joanne swing by McDonald’s

Married At First Sight’s first dinner party featured plenty of drama from this year’s brides and grooms, but it turns out some stars were left wanting more.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal that James Susler and his bride Joanne Todd took a detour on the way back to their Sydney hotel after filming.

The newlyweds were spotted arriving at their five star accommodation with a takeaway order from McDonald’s

Appearing to be quite the gentleman, James, 44, carried the couple’s fast food.

While it’s unclear what food the couple ordered, their meal was kept protected in a large paper bag which was placed on a cardboard tray.

Both James and Jo opted to have a drink with their meal. 

Following a long day of filming, the couple were dressed to the nines in a matching all-black ensembles.

Joanne, 39, was seen carrying an oversized Coles bag carrying her essentials.

After entering their hotel, the couple were spotted making their way over to the reception desk where they are understood to have complained about their room key not working.

Meanwhile, the lavish location of Married At First Sight’s weekly dinner parties and commitment ceremonies isn’t as glamorous as it appears on TV.

Although the couples are filmed being chauffeur driven to the destination each week, the cameras fail to capture them then being dumped on an industrial estate.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal that each year the show hires a warehouse in Sydney’s Lilyfield, which they transform for TV with several sneaky camera tricks. 

For example, the sliding door on the rustic brick wall which the couples make their grand arrival through each week is fake.

Many other walls are also custom built and erected around hired furniture, in order to create the intimate environment shown on television.

In reality, the set is a bare 1200sqm loft space with no such fixtures or furniture.
