The Powerpuff Girls live-action reboot gets a pilot order on The CW along with a reboot of The 4400

The CW is giving fans a few blasts from the past, ordering a live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls and a remake of The 4400.

The network has issued a pilot order for The Powerpuff Girls live-action reboot, and a straight-to-series order for The 4400 remake, according to Variety. 

The network also issued two more pilot orders, the DC Project Naomi from Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship and an untitled religious dramedy from Claire Rothrock and Ryann Weir.

The live-action PowerPuff Girls series was first announced in development back in August, though no casting has been announced yet.

The show will be based on the animated series created by Craig McCracken, which aired for six seasons and 78 episodes between 1998 and 2005.

This new program will feature the heroes as, ‘disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting.’

The show will follow these heroes as the world needs them more than ever as everyone wonders whether they will reunite. 

Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody are writing and executive producing the new series, with Cody executive producing through her Vita Vera Films.

Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden are serving as executive producers via Berlanti Productions, with Erika Kennair producing.

The 4400 follows 4400, ‘overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years.’

One day they are all returned in an instant, with no memory of what happened to them, and not having aged a day.

While the government analyzes these survivors, they start to realize they were returned with ‘upgrades’ as they

As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason. 

Ariana Jackson will write and executive produce the series, with Anna Fricke and Laura Terry also executive producing and CBS Studios producing.

The original series was created by René Echevarria and Scott Peterst, starring Joel Gretsch, Jacqueline McKenzie, Conchita Campbell and future Oscar winner Mahershala Ali.
