‘It was a big thing, but he knew it was coming for a long time because I had pre-empted [a move to Italy],’ she told co-hosts Monty Diamond and Yumi Stynes.

‘We were actually doing a show here together when I decided we [her family] were going to go live in Italy together.’

She said Dave questioned her move to Bologna Italy and how she would spend her days in the city.

‘He kept saying to me: ”What are you going to do all day”,’ Kate said. ‘I’m like, my dream, my dream is nothingness.’

Kate went on to call Dave one of the most ‘significant men in her life’.

‘Apart from my husband he was the most significant man in my life. And it has been like a marriage, and now like a divorce,’ she said.

Kate and her husband of 17 years, Peter, relocated to Bologna with their four children, Lewis, Sunday, Artie and Jan, in January 2019.

It was supposed to be a ‘family gap year’, but they decided to extend the break for an additional 12 months before coronavirus was declared a pandemic.

Kate only recently moved back to Melbourne after she was forced to live under Italy’s strict covid lockdowns last year.

Speaking to the Herald Sun earlier this month, Kate explained that ‘Hughesy and Kate’ couldn’t get back together because Dave is now doing a breakfast show in Sydney.

She said she didn’t want to uproot her four children to a new city again following their recent return from Italy.

‘We had conversations about that but I couldn’t say to the kids, yeah we’re coming back to Australia, guess what we’re moving to Sydney,’ she explained.
