TALK OF THE TOWN: ‘Waves would hit the window of the house’: Actress Kate Winslet says she had to rough it in a storm-blasted cottage in Dorset

It’s a tough life preparing for your latest starring role in a film – just ask Kate Winslet, who says she had to rough it in a storm-blasted little cottage.

For most of us, this three-storey pink house in the heart of a popular tourist spot could hardly be called little – but that’s how Kate described the property she stayed in to ‘get into character’ for Ammonite, a film about the life of a Dorset fossil-hunter.

Kate told US TV: ‘It was so isolated, cold and rattly that when there was a big storm, the waves would hit the windows of the house and the power would go down.’

Perhaps she was so busy working that she forgot to notice the ‘isolated’ 18th Century house in West Bay, Dorset, is next to a row of terrace houses…
