Jacki Weaver, 73, describes her life in West Hollywood during the pandemic – after moving to America thanks to her career resurgence

Jacki Weaver has long been an Australian legend. 

But it was late in her career that Hollywood came calling, with the 73-year-old actress getting two Oscar nods.

The first, a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Animal Kingdom in 2011 and again for Silver Linings Playbook in 2012.

She didn’t take hone the gongs, but the Australian actress has since based herself in Hollywood to take advantage of her new career. 

After a decade in the city, she has finally purchased an apartment, explaining to Stellar magazine this week: ‘It’s just a modest little flat, about 10 minutes from where we were living’. 

The actress said that she misses her son Dylan and her grandchildren, and has been in lockdown for eight months.

Jacki is still working, landing a guest role on the Kevin Costner TV series Yellowstone, and she says COVID protocols were strict.

‘It was a strange experience because the coronavirus protocols were really strict. We were tested every day. 

‘We couldn’t go anywhere. We wore masks. Nobody could go near anybody on set,’ she said.

Jacki will next appear in Penguin Bloom alongside Naomi Watts, which was filmed on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Also appearing in the film are Andrew Lincoln, Rachel House, Leeanna Walsman, Lisa Hensley, Griffin Murray-Johnston, Felix Cameron and Abe Clifford-Barr. 

While the film doesn’t hit cinemas until January 21, and is based on the 2016 book Penguin Bloom: The Odd Little Bird Who Saved a Family.
