Inside Zac Efron’s epic body transformation in Australia

He’s the Hollywood heart-throb whose impressive physique has sent pulses racing in movies such as Baywatch and Dirty Grandpa.

But after relocating to Australia in March, it seems Zac Efron has taken his training to the next level and now looks more ripped than ever as he films his new movie, Gold.

The hunky 33-year-old was pictured flaunting his incredible biceps in a singlet while shooting his latest project in the South Australian outback last Friday.

The actor beamed as he greeted starstruck fans on set, while showing off his jacked-up arms.

His physical appearance was worlds away from a photo Zac shared on Instagram last July, in which he posed shirtless alongside comedian Jim Carrey.

While still looking muscular, Zac’s arms were less defined than they are now, which proves he has clearly been ramping up his fitness routine Down Under.

In another photo, taken in October 2019, Zac posed shirtless in a sauna, and looked remarkably less defined than he does these days.

The High School Musical star’s physique has changed a lot over the years.

He was potentially at his most ripped in the 2017 movie Baywatch – but even for other roles, Zac has always maintained a chiselled look.

He has spoken out about his sometimes brutal fitness regimes in the past.

In 2012, he confirmed he’d trained for ‘five days a week for four months’ and ate a protein-rich breakfast every morning for his role in The Lucky One.

‘A shake and, you know, an eight-egg omelet,’ he told Men’s Health magazine. ‘I got used to it at the time, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

‘It’s not practical to do for a long period of time. You feel this debilitating soreness. This kind of stuff, going golfing, you can’t do.’

Zac added: ‘You get this strange sense of power as those weights increase. By the end of the movie I didn’t recognize myself.’

He then returned to the public eye with roles in That Awkward Moment and Bad Neighbors, both of which came out in 2014 and saw the star whipping his shirt off.

Speaking about getting in shape for Bad Neighbors, Zac said that his regime was ‘sort of different every time’.

He said: ‘I was doing a lot of protein shakes, like a ton of protein shakes every day. I lived the fraternity lifestyle – it was literally wake up, work out, hang with the boys all day.

‘It’s pretty hard to train like that 24/7. I love to train, it’s just a part of my sort of zen thing that I do to keep myself centred. But staying like that is probably not good for you.’

In 2017, Zac revealed the gruelling diet he ate to bulk up for his role in Baywatch.

In addition to a rigorous training schedule, he went through ‘nine days of absolutely zero carbs and sugar. Only organic grass-fed/free-range protein and leafy greens.’

Production for Zac’s new movie, Gold, was halted at the end of November, after Adelaide was declared a coronavirus hotspot. Production resumed once the lockdown was lifted.

His upcoming movie tells the story of two drifters who stumble across the biggest gold nugget ever found while exploring the outback.

Zac appears very comfortable living in Australia, especially after finding love with Byron Bay waitress Vanessa Valladares.
