Mike Larkan returns to Channel 10 just three months after he was made redundant by the network

Mike Larkan will officially return to Channel 10 in a new role, just three months after he was made redundant.

The 56-year-old will soon be back on screens as a community reporter in the Melbourne bureau, according to TV Blackbox.

The segment, called Mike’s Melbourne, ‘will shine a light on what’s happening in our city and across the state, showcasing events around town, as Victoria is brought back to life post lockdown.’ 

Mike told the publication: ‘Changes were made at 10, I wasn’t part of the new change but I think they sort of missed the idea of me being on location, being out and around Melbourne.

The former weatherman also spoke positively about the support from audiences.

He said: ‘There was quite the groundswell of viewers who were unhappy with the decision that was made. I think that’s been a big plus in me coming back.’

Speaking to the publication, network spokesperson said Channel 10 is thrilled to welcome the TV veteran back so soon after his departure.   

Mike’s return to Channel 10 comes after his shock axing from the network in September. 

At the time, he told The Daily Telegraph he was ‘caught of guard’ to learn he was getting boned by the network over the phone. 

‘I was caught off guard. I’ll be honest… I was totally surprised when I got the phone call. I just had no idea.’

‘You don’t want to hear the news you are no longer in their plan going forward. But, well, I’ve taken that in my stride,’ he added. 

Mike was initially let go alongside Channel 10’s big name personalities such as Kerri-Anne Kennerley, weatherman Tim Bailey and Natarsha Belling as part of brutal budget cuts.
