Wisconsin counts ballots through the night and is set to declare a winner within hours – with Biden leading Trump by just 0.24% of the vote

  • 95 per cent of ballots tallied and only 8,000 votes separating the candidates
  • If it flips blue Biden will be within touching distance of the White House
  • Trump is showing well in the rural areas while Biden has mopped up in cities

Counting is Wisconsin has gone right down to the wire with Biden hanging on to a wafer-thin lead over President Trump.

With 95 per cent of ballots tallied and only 8,000 votes – 0.24 per cent – separating the candidates, the world is watching which way the state will finally break.

If it flips blue Biden will be within touching distance of the White House and realistically only have to clinch one other battleground state to triumph.

A victory in Wisconsin would pitch him at 248, meaning he only needed 22 more electoral college votes to hit 270.

Election staff are grappling with a crush of mail-in ballots, which are likely to be cast in Biden’s favour.

Trump is showing well in the rural areas while Biden has mopped up votes in cities such as Madison.

Only 51 per cent of votes have been counted in Brown County, where Trump is ahead by 15 points, which if extrapolated could see him edge the state.
