Piers Morgan tells Twitter trolls targeting Kate Garraway to ‘go f**k themselves’

Piers Morgan has slammed trolls targeting Kate Garraway amid her husband Derek Draper’s eight month Covid-19 battle.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, called one troll a ‘disgusting piece of trash’ and told them to ‘go f*** themselves’ after they said they ‘do not believe a word that woman [Kate] is saying about her husband’.

The shocking allegations came in a response to a tweet from Piers on Saturday, where he told ‘the whiners’ to ‘shut up’ as he thought of his fellow GMB star’s ‘courage and resilience’.

He penned: ‘When I hear people whining about wearing a mask, or not being able to get lashed with 20 mates every night, I also think of my friend Kate Garraway’s extraordinary courage, resilience & dignity in the face of unbearable heartache.

‘And I say to the whiners: shut up.’

But the angry troll replied to Piers’s post on Monday soon after Kate, 53, had appeared via video link on Good Morning Britain with an update on her husband’s Covid battle.

The TV presenter also revealed to her co-stars Piers and Susanna Reid on Monday’s show that family car had been stolen from outside her London home.

After Kate’s interview, the troll lashed out at Piers, writing: ‘Just watched her [Kate] being allowed to drivel on for 10 mins about her volvo!!! seriously you are scraping the barrel here.

‘I just do not believe a word that woman is saying about her husband. I have followed this story and it is not adding up.’

But the furious journalist hit back at the ‘disgusting’ troll within minutes, bluntly telling them to ‘go f**k yourself’.

Sharing the startling claim, he said: ‘You disgusting piece of trash. If you had even an ounce of Kate’s decency, courage & dignity then I would bother to engage you further.

But you don’t, so go f*** yourself.’

His social media row came after Piers was quick to hit out at Kate’s car thieves on GMB, who he branded ‘disgusting scumbags’.

Speaking on the show, Kate explained: ‘Initially I thought it’s bound to be an unpaid parking ticket that Derek hasn’t been able to sort out while out of action since March and it’s probably gone through a system and it’s been impounded – but it’s actually been stolen.’

Piers was furious, raging: ‘Let me get this straight. Some little scumbag or scumbags have come to your house and stolen your car when you’re going through what you’re going through.

‘It is absolutely disgusting. If you know someone who has this car… It makes me puke that someone has done this.’

Kate described the loss of her ‘silver, battered, old’ 20-year-old family car, nicknamed Vicky Volvo, as a ‘blow’.

But Piers pledged to get her ‘car situation fixed today’, asking for Volvo to get in touch and help.

He also made a direct plea to the car thieves, saying: ‘Honestly if you took that car look at your humanity for a moment please and give the damn car back.

‘It’s got sentimental value. It is the family car and it’s the only the two kids have known, it’s part of the family life. This family needs that car.’

Kate’s husband-of-15-years Derek, 53, was first taken into hospital on March 30 in an unresponsive condition and has been battling with coronavirus ever since.

The I’m A Celeb star revealed at the beginning of June that her husband was free from the virus but was still battling the damage inflicted on his body.

Derek is now becoming the longest survivor of Covid-19 in the UK as he enters his eighth month in hospital.

During her GMB interview, Kate fought back tears as she shared an update on the former lobbyist’s condition.

The broadcaster revealed the ‘heartbreaking’ breakthrough moment when Derek had appeared to mouth the word ‘pain’ when asked by nurses if he was in any discomfort.

Kate explained that doctors and nurses have treated her husband as if he were conscious through his hospitalisation, asking him if he were in any pain.

She continued: ‘And they did this, and he very clearly mouthed the word ‘pain’. Everybody that was there stopped and couldn’t believe it.’

She said she is now ‘praying for the second miracle’ in his battle and hopes that he can ‘come back to us’.

The TV presenter added: ‘The power of hope is huge but you’re constantly trying to think, at what point do I have to start being real.’

In August, Kate revealed she is writing a self-help book as she continues to support Derek.

She admitted that she was given the deal before Derek’s illness and is now tweaking the book to include ‘insights’ from the ordeal.

She plans to call the book Good Morning Life: How To Wake Up Every Day And Smile.
