‘We were petrified!’ Hamish Blake and Andy Lee recall fearing for their jobs following singer John Butler’s expletive-ridden interview early in their radio career

Comedians Hamish Blake and Andy Lee have recalled the ‘panic’ they felt following singer John Butler’s expletive-ridden interview early in their radio career.

Andy explained that the American-Australian musician left them fearing for their jobs as producers had previously told them that ‘if a swear word were to air the licence for the radio station could be revoked’.

Noting that they have since dealt with a lot worse, Andy told News.com.au: ‘Hamish and I were recalling that, and when we listened back to it we were like, “That’s actually pretty tame really”‘.

Andy continued: ‘Probably through our petrified eyes and ears it would have felt like the worst thing ever to happen’.

The pair reflected on the moment as they discussed their new podcast series, Hamish and Andy’s Remembering Project.

The podcast will see them look back on specific moments from their careers and discuss how they were feeling during the moment.

The pair pick a random date from the 2600 run sheets collected by producers from their previous radio shows and discuss how they were feeling at the time.

‘You can only remember the big things, but the show is just as much about the things that may have gone wrong or that you don’t remember quite so well,’ Andy added.

This comes after Hamish’s wife Zoë Foster Blake revealed the most outrageous way the couple have been woken up in the middle of the night by their children, son Sonny, six, and daughter Rudy, three.

On a recent episode of The Project, Zoë, 40, recalled how Rudy once alerted Hamish, who is arachnophobic, to a spider in the bathroom.

‘Rudy recently woke up my husband saying there was a spider in the bathroom, and he should come and see it for a shock,’ Zoë told guest panellist Annika Smethurst.

‘He is arachnophobic, so that was a wake-up call for him!’ she continued.
