Channel Nine’s Erin Molan breaks down in tears as she discusses the toll cyber-bullying has taken

Channel Nine sports reporter Erin Molan broke down into tears as she discussed the impact cyber-bullying has had on her.

In a teaser clip for a 60 Minutes episode set to air on Sunday, the 38-year-old admitted she had been left in ‘some pretty dark places’ following the constant vitriol she receives on social media.

Erin went on to call for stricter prosecution of trolls as she explained she had reported the messages of hatred to Facebook who deemed them ‘not offensive’.

Erin’s distress was evident as she told reporter Tom Steinfort: ‘The time to prosecute trolls is here’.

The TV star added that the amount of hateful messages she receives on Facebook and Twitter ‘really hurts’.

‘Every single Australian should be terrified about what is happening online at the moment.’

Erin also explained that she attempted to take matters into her own hands, saying: ‘I’ve reported these messages to Facebook.

‘Their response was that they were not considered offensive. They are not doing their best, not even close.

Speaking to the keyboard warriors, the TV personality defiantly said: ‘You’re not big, you’re not tough. You’re scum of the earth.’

The short teaser clip also saw former Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Seibold discuss his experiences being subjected to online trolling.

The 46-year-old said: ‘My situation went viral on social media, defamatory comments, my reputation was ruined in a lot of respects.

‘The very last message on social media was the one that probably upset me the most, because it spoke about my daughter.’

Tim Kendall, one of Facebook’s first employees, also made his disdain for the era of online trolling clear.  

‘[Facebook] push right up to the point of inciting violence and that’s when they’ll take it down. But hate speech is totally fine,’ he said in disgust.
