Woman loses 100LBS by following a ‘lazy keto’ diet

A woman has revealed how she lost more than 100 pounds in just one year following a ‘lazy keto’ — her own simplified version of the popular high-fat, low-carb diet.

Megan Faraday, 25, from Ontario, Canada, told Good Morning America that she had been feeling ‘really uncomfortable’ with herself for a long time when she woke up one morning and decided to ‘try keto to see if it sticks.’

But instead of going all in and counting every macronutrient she ate, she focused solely on the amount of carbohydrates she was consuming, which helped her ditch the fast food, bread, potatoes, and pasta she used to eat.

‘It’s keto without all of the hardcore rules,’ she said of her ‘lazy keto’ plan. ‘I figured out how to calculate net carbs [the total grams of carbohydrates in a food minus the grams of fiber] and just went from there.’

Focusing on her carb intake helped her overhaul her diet so that she was eating more fresh vegetables and lean proteins. In just one month, she dropped 15 pounds, and the weight loss was a motivator for her to keep going.

Megan was able to stick to her approach because she didn’t feel deprived. She was able to eat a lot of things she normally would with just a few tweaks.

‘It’s a lot of things you would be eating otherwise, just minus the carbs. Things like chicken wings that you wouldn’t normally think of as diet foods,’ she told GMA of her diet. ‘And it’s easy to make regular recipes that I would have been eating before more keto-friendly.’

Within a year, she has lost 107 pounds, and now she is slowly reintroducing carbs back into her diet while continuing her weight loss.

Losing weight also inspired Megan to get in shape after previously having difficulty walking up a flight of stairs. Now she runs and works out three to five times a week.

‘My total attitude to life has changed completely,’ she explained, noting that she is now more outgoing and finds it easier to manage her anxiety.
