Channel 10 AXES Cheez TV successor Toasted TV – leaving the cast and crew of the children’s show blindsided

Channel 10 has given children’s show Toasted TV the axe after 15 years on the air.

The long-running program, which began as a successor to ’90s cult favourite Cheez TV, will film its last episode in the coming weeks.

The cast and crew were ‘devastated’ when management informed them of the decision last week, reports TV Blackbox.

Cancelled: Channel 10 has axed children’s show Toasted TV after 15 years on the air. The program, which began as a successor to ’90s cult favourite Cheez TV, will film its last episode in the coming weeks

Toasted TV is filmed at Channel 10’s Brisbane studios, and the current series is set to finish sometime in August.

The show is currently hosted by Ollie McCormack and Lia Walsh, and the six-person crew apparently ‘had no idea’ the show would be cancelled.

‘It’s really sad, people are devastated,’ a source told TV Blackbox.

Channel 10 has since confirmed the news, saying in a statement: ‘Toasted TV will finish on air mid-August.’

The network hasn’t given a reason why the program was cancelled, but it was likely a budgetary consideration.

It comes after Channel Seven’s decision to axe all its children’s programming.

Coming to an end: According to a report by TV Blackbox on Monday, the long-running TV show - which started out as a successor to Cheez TV - will film its last episode in coming weeks

Despite axing the series, Channel 10 is gearing up to launch a new channel targeted at kids called 10 Shake.

But it’s understood much of 10 Shake’s content will be sourced from Nickelodeon, which is owned by the network’s parent company, ViacomCBS.

Toasted TV premiered on Channel 10 in August 2005, taking over from Cheez TV, which had aired from 1995 until 2005.

In February 2012, Toasted TV was moved to 10 Peach (formerly known as Eleven), airing on weekdays from 6am to 9.30am, Saturdays from 6am to 7am, and Sundays from 6am to 9am.

The show is targeted at kids aged seven to 14, and blends segments featuring the hosts with cartoons such as SpongeBob SquarePants.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Channel 10 for comment.
