MAFS: Stacey Hampton faces BRUTAL backlash from American viewers

Married At First Sight’s Stacey Hampton is bracing herself for backlash after being introduced to American viewers for the first time.

The Channel Nine reality show is being aired in the U.S. on Lifetime, and Stacey’s wedding to Michael Goonan hits screens this week.

Lifetime released a trailer for the pair’s nuptials on Tuesday, and many fans were not impressed by the single mother’s self-important attitude.

Stacey, 26, was immediately dismissive of her ‘husband’ when they met at the altar, and only warmed to him when she realised he was rich.

She was particularly annoyed by his goofy vows, which included a clichéd reference to the ‘life is like a box of chocolates’ quote from Forrest Gump.

Her initial reaction to the Adelaide businessman, as well as her surgically-enhanced appearance, didn’t go down well with Americans.

‘I think she needs a little more Botox,’ one viewer commented on Instagram. Another added: ‘I’m so distracted by the “way too much” plastic surgery!’

A third viewer said she ‘doesn’t pass the vibe check’ and a fourth noted she ‘looks about as high maintenance as they come’.

One bluntly wrote: ‘This chick looks unpleasant AF.’

Other fans said Michael, who has a son from a previous relationship, deserved better.

‘I love him. He’s just what she needs – hopefully she will get past the bleach and Botox and realize it!’ one commented.

Married At First Sight premiered on Lifetime on May 27, and will air Wednesday and Thursday nights until all 36 episodes are shown.

It comes after Michael, 29, said he was struggling to move forward now that his season of MAFS is being aired in the States.

The businessman told Fifi, Fev & Byron earlier this month that he was being trolled online by American viewers, bringing back bad memories.

‘I’m getting Yankee insults now… it’s reliving a horrible experience,’ he said.

Michael and law graduate Stacey were embroiled in two cheating scandals during their time on the show.

The first was a love triangle involving co-star Hayley Vernon.

Hayley admitted to Stacey that she’d kissed Michael, although he insisted he’d been too drunk to remember the incident, which happened off-camera.

Weeks later, fellow groom Mikey Pembroke claimed at the reunion dinner party that he’d slept with Stacey earlier in the season.

Michael is now dating KC Osborne, an ‘intruder’ bride whose own relationship with musician Drew Brauer fizzled out shortly after their final vows.

Meanwhile, Michael and Stacey aren’t the only cast members to be copping backlash from the U.S.

Tash Herz has expressed her disappointment at the homophobic response towards her and ex-‘wife’ Amanda Micallef.

‘Our series of MAFS streams in the U.S. on Lifetime in three days and the homophobia is already BLAZING which just makes me real proud of the response from Australia,’ she wrote on Instagram last month.

Dozens of American viewers had left comments below a trailer for Tash and Amanda’s wedding, calling their union ‘sinful’, ‘disgusting’ and ‘sick’.
