Kevin Bacon plays father staying in house haunting him with the secrets of his past

What was supposed to be a getaway to repair their marriage turned into a living nightmare for one couple in the upcoming horror film, You Should Have Left.

The bone-chilling new trailer shows Theo (Kevin Bacon) traveling to a remote Welsh house with his much younger wife Susanna (Amanda Seyfried) and their daughter Ella (Avery Tiiu Essex).

On the surface, the house seems like the perfect place for the family to recharge their batteries – that is until the home begins to turn on Theo.

The foreshadowing begins early as their daughter asks her father about his death.

‘Daddy, because you’re old you’ll die before mommy, right?’ Ella asks from her car seat as they drive to the house.

‘Hey! Not that old!’ he jokes.

Once they arrive, the trio are truly impressed by the gorgeous and secluded house, tucked into the rolling hillside.

‘It’s so beautiful!’ Ella shouts as she runs down the grassy incline.

Her father marvels at just how peaceful the home is.

‘Wait, listen,’ Theo instructs his wife as they tour the house. ‘The quiet.’

It doesn’t take long for the horrors of the house to begin revealing themselves.

‘There was a shadow on the wall!’ Ella tells her father as he walks in, seconds later.

Theo dismisses her fears, and tucks her into bed.

Seconds later, the shadow reappears.

Soon Theo begins to notice the unusual house as well.

Theo measures the inside and outside of the house, and determines the measurements don’t match.

‘This rope is five feet longer on the inside than it is on the outside,’ Theo tells his daughter, perplexed.

‘How does that work?’ Ella asks.

‘It doesn’t,’ Theo replies.

And it seems the house has gained a reputation to locals in the area, who ask Theo about his stay.

‘Anything happened yet?’ a man asks Theo.

The horrors only continue, as Theo finds terrifying notes in his journal instructing him to leave the house.

‘Do you like it here?’ Theo asks his wife one day.

‘Why do people hate daddy so much?’ Ella asks her mother during a walk through the woods.

‘The judge and the jury all found him innocent, but some people just didn’t believe him,’ she tells him.

It seems as though not even Susanna is entirely convinced of Theo’s innocence.

‘He must be guilty of something,’ she is heard saying.

The trailer ends with Theo walking towards the tub, before a hand grabs him and pulls him down.
