DOCTOR Who fans don’t have to worry about missing out on the Christmas special this year as filming has already been completed on the episode.
Just days before the country went into lockdown, the BBC announced this year’s Christmas special would be called Revolution of the Daleks.
It will see The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and companions Graham O’Brien (Bradley Walsh), Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole) and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) facing off against the Time Lord’s greatest enemy.
However, the lockdown brought an end to all filming on the BBC’s scripted programmes.
Luckily, actress Mandip Gill has confirmed the special will go ahead – as it was filmed before the lockdown was brought in.
“I think I’m allowed to say, yes, the festive special has been filmed,” Mandip told the Radio Times.
“It was absolutely pure luck we happened to have filmed it.
“I guess it’s the way it always films – they filmed the special at the same time as series 12.”
Fans will probably have to wait longer for series 13 of the Sci-Fi show, though, as filming was supposed to start later this year.
She continued: “The conversations are probably happening somewhere else, and everyone is affected, so I guess we’re just going to have to wait for guidelines.
“I’ve kind of not even asked, because I know that I’ll get told when I’m supposed to.
“I’m quite laid back in that sense, it’s going to come to me when it’s supposed to come to me.
“As soon as they say yeah or no, I’m going to know too. And as soon as they know, they’re going to want to tell us.”
Meanwhile, the BBC confirmed Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston will be returning to the Doctor Who universe in the new multi-platform spin-off Time Lord Victorious.
Little else was known about the spin-off other than it is a major new Doctor Who series but BBC has just released some new information which will get Whovians very excited.
An “amazing epic” multi-platform experience will tell the story of several doctors protecting Gallifrey using different mediums including, comic books, audio dramas, magazines and more.
The BBC said in a statement: “Following several Doctors across space and time as they defend their home planet from a terrible race, this is a story like no other.”
