Each episode of Rick and Morty whisks viewers along for a surreal and unexpected adventure. With the series returning to Adult Swim soon, fans of the series have been discussing potential theories that could come into play during later episodes.
The most recent episode of season four aired way back in December 2019, leaving devoted viewers desperate for more content from co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland.
Rick and his grandson Morty (both played by Justin Roiland) embarked on an irreverent time travelling escapade with alien snakes in Rattlestar Ricklactica.
Thankfully, Adult Swim announced the show will be returning on May 3 with five brand new episodes, and the titles of the duo’s next adventures followed soon after.
As season 4b of the bizarre sci-fi cartoon promises more parodies of classic movies and some dark twists, fans have been looking back at older episodes for hints.

During the season four opening, Rick was able to hop between dimensions with the help of back-up clones he keeps in the Smith family basement.
Additionally, viewers have witnessed how Rick’s scientific prowess has only increased over the course of four seasons, with one fan suggesting the mad inventor could have another cloning trick up his sleeves.
The Rick and Morty enthusiast took to Reddit to discuss the possibility of Rick having the ability to duplicate entire universes.
Redditor ArtDesire posted: “Rewatching Mortynight Run and when Rick picks up Jerry from the Jerrycare he bumps into the other version of him and Morty; he asks ‘how many many people was your Morty was responsible for killing today?’ and this got me thinking.”
This theory proposes Rick could be exercising full mastery over the universe by duplicating dimensions to see if he can make better decisions.
If this theory is true, his plan clearly hasn’t worked, as Rick is just as unhinged and self-destructive as ever.
There is precedent to the theory, however, as Rick has already demonstrated he has the ability to create his own universes.
In season two, The Ricks Must Be Crazy, it’s revealed the unstable scientist was able to maintain a pocket universe to power his trusty space cruiser.
