Jackie O: The joke on Popstars that would NEVER be allowed on TV today

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson reveals the outdated joke on Popstars that would NEVER be allowed on television after the #MeToo movement

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson believes there are some moments on the singing competition Popstars, which she hosted in the early 2000s, that would never be allowed to air on TV after the #MeToo movement.

During an interview with comedian Andy Lee on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday, the 45-year-old recalled how one of the Popstars judges used to glance up and down at the female singers’ bodies as a joke for the camera.

Music executive Chris Moss would stand further away than the other judges as they listened to the auditions, quite obviously checking out the performers as they sang.

‘He was always busted looking at their boobs’: Jackie ‘O’ Henderson believes there are some moments on Popstars that would never be allowed to air on TV after the #MeToo movement

Jackie, who had recently re-watched the footage, said she only just realised how outdated the humour was.

‘I started watching it, and you’re talking about that #MeToo movement and one of the judges on there – like it was supposed to be a funny thing – but his thing was he kept getting busted looking girls up and down their body,’ she said.

‘His thing was like, he was always busted looking at their boobs and stuff.

‘It was supposed to be funny and everyone was laughing at it. And I’m thinking, “Oh god, that just wouldn’t fly now.”‘

The ‘joke’ was featured in a scene in which the Bardot band members watched back their audition footage during a dinner party with the.

They all giggled at Chris as his eyes wandered over one of the Popstars hopefuls, prompting Sophie Monk to ask: ‘What are you looking at?’

'What are you looking at?' The 'joke' continued as the Bardot girls rewatched their audition footage during a dinner party with the judges, giggling at Chris as he swept his eyes over one of the Popstars hopefuls

Katie Underwood then poked fun at him by saying: ‘Oh, I love her assets!’

Popstars ran aired from 2000 to 2002 on Channel Seven, two years before Australian Idol premiered on the same network.

Bardot formed on season one and went on to release a string of hits, including Poison, ASAP and I Need Somebody, before breaking up after almost three years.
