Russell Howard has revealed his heartache at living apart from his wife in lockdown.

Cerys is a geriatric doctor who returned to work, despite being on sabbatical, to help during the pandemic.

Alone: Russell Howard has revealed his heartache at living apart from his wife in lockdown. The comedian, 40, moved out of his home and back in with his parents amid the coronavirus crisis

During an appearance Sunday Brunch, filmed over webcam, Russell explained: ‘She’s working for the NHS, so she’s a frontline doctor.

‘And she’s also got a couple of doctors living with her, who have got elderly relatives so it kind of felt like the most sensible thing to do, was to unfortunately live apart.

‘It’s heartbreaking but it’s for the greater good.’

Russell went on to explain how it felt having to move back in with his parents in his childhood home in Bath.

The comedian admitted: ‘It’s brutal. On my 40th birthday I was meant to be doing an arena in Amsterdam and I slept in my teenage bed.

‘It was like the universe’s way of saying, “don’t get ahead of yourself”, so yeah it’s fairly strange but it could be a lot worse.

‘I’m very lucky that I still get to make a TV show and all the money is going to a food bank charity and an NHS charity together.’

Russell previously spoke about his wife’s decision to return to the NHS frontline.

During a chat with Lorraine Kelly earlier this month, he revealed: ‘My wife was having six months off as a doctor. As soon as the crisis happened, she went straight back to work.’

Speaking about their decision to temporarily live apart in order to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, he continued: ‘It’s just incredibly tough.

‘It’s incredibly tough, but I’m just immensely proud of her, of all of them. She’s got lots of friends who are doctors and nurses and they just crack on.’
