Is Tyler Rake dead? – The Sun

NETFLIX’S hotly-anticipated action thriller Extraction landed on our TV screens on April 24, with film fans overjoyed at Chris Hemsworth’s latest role as mercenary Tyler Rake.

But viewers were left puzzled by the film’ ambiguous ending, with many questioning what happened to the hard-as-nails Rake.

What is Extraction about?

Hemsworth, 36, plays Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary who is sent to Bangladesh to rescue the kidnapped son of an international drug lord.

Based on the comic Ciudad by Ande Parks, Extraction tells the story of Rake, a man who has nothing left to lose when he is solicited to rescue Ovi from kidnappers – but things don’t quite go to plan during the rescue.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “His skills are solicited to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.”

It continued: “But in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible, forever altering the lives of Rake and the boy.”

Is Tyler Rake dead?

Viewers of the film would have been left in no doubt as to the fate of Rake after he was double-crossed and shot multiple times at the end of the film.

The hard man took the flak in order to draw attention away from Ovi, who was being rescued by helicopter.

However, despite appearing to finally survive the onslaught, he was shot in the neck and viewers saw him fall into the river.

The film then cut to Ovi swimming in a pool in Mumbai, India, eight months after the shootout and rescue.

After dipping under the water, Ovi looked up to see someone watching him from the edge – and while the silhouette was blurry, it closely resembled the figure of Tyler Rake.

Viewers were left in the dark as to what happened next however – and if Rake survived the shootout – as the film cut straight to the credits.

Is Netflix planning a sequel?

Sam Hargrave, who directed Extraction, told Digital Spy a follow-up could be in the works and that talks had taken place, based on the success of the first.

Hargrave said: “There have been discussions of different storylines that could take place in different times – both forward in time and backwards in time.

“”We’re just waiting to see what happens, and to see how the appetite is for these characters and for this film.

“And then we’ll make our decision. But there definitely have been discussions of broadening this world, for sure.”

The Russo Brothers, who wrote the script, also seemed to hint that more movies could be created within the film’s universe, Marvel-style.

Anthony Russo told NME: “The intention was to tell multiple movies with this character.

“We wanted to build around the idea of a black market extractor, which is why we changed the title.

“These films aren’t always going to be set in the same location, so we couldn’t make it location specific.”
