“Absolutely correct it is too soon to stop the lock down ask yourself would you rather die or miss your relations for a few weeks more,” one viewer tweeted.

Another continued: “I absolutely can’t agree more with him, we should never be broken in this lockdown too early. People’s lives are far better than worrying about the economy.”

A third shared: “I agree. Do not end the lockdown yet, or there will be an even bigger loss of life @GMB. And I speak from experience, losing three friends from Coronavirus.”

Earlier in the show, Piers hit out at those who were flouting the UK’s lockdown rules.

The presenter ranted: “Strange weekend, I went out a couple of times, Kensington High Street absolutely rammed, cars everywhere, Holland Park was packed.

“The lockdown has unlocked, people have decided they’re just not going to do it and this is why I’m thrilled Boris Johnson is back at work.”

The current UK lockdown was put into place on March 23 by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and is set to be reviewed on May 7.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
