However, to tide fans over, the TV maestro has posted a hint about what fans can expect to see in the upcoming instalment.

So far, fans have surmised from the various teaser images that the tenth season will be beach or water themed.

We also know that Macaulay Culkin will be joining the show, following his announcement in the official cast list.

Now Murphy has thrown a curveball into the mix by posting a picture of the rubber man, alongside the caption: “Coming soon…”

The rubber man made his debut in season 1 and has popped up multiple times since then, embodied by the likes of Dylan McDermott, Zachary Quinto, Cody Fern and Evan Peters.

Judging by fans’ response in the comments section, his return will be a welcome one.

“Omg he’s back! I don’t know if I’m ready,” one user wrote.

“Such a blast from the past!” a second added, alongside a trio of skull emojis.

Meanwhile a third referenced the apparent ocean theme of the season, joking: “At least he’s waterproof, right?”

Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross and Finn Wittrock are among the returning names starring in season 10.

The rubber man clue comes after pop star Dua Lipa begged for a role on American Horror Story.

The English singer-songwriter and model, 24, told MTV: “I’d really like to be on American Horror Story because I’ve always loved the characters and that series and how they get to play so many different roles with every season.

“I just love the story behind it and I’ve always been a fan.”
