MasterChef fans divided over Hayden Quinn’s nacho dish

‘Then why did they put packets in the pantry?’ MasterChef fans are divided over Hayden Quinn’s nacho dish – as the judges say the corn chips should have been made from scratch

Contestants were required to use pantry items chosen by the judges on Sunday night’s episode of MasterChef: Back To Win.

Hayden Quinn plated up Chilaquiles Verdes with an avocado cream and peach hot sauce, and was quizzed as to whether he made the corn chips from scratch.

As the judges remarked that homemade over packet chips would have been better, some viewers asked online: ‘Why did they put ready made ones in the pantry?’

Another said: ‘The judges looking down their nose at Hayden for using packet corn chips that they themselves put in the pantry, is some red hot b*****t, I tell you what.’

One suggested that making fresh tortilla chips in such a short timeframe is near-impossible, while another claimed the chips were a ‘trap’.

‘The corn chips in the pantry were a trap. Hayden should have known that by now,’ they wrote.

However, some agreed with the judges, saying that on a show like MasterChef, all dishes should be made from scratch.

‘Hayden just served nachos on store-bought chips? On MasterChef?’ one wrote.

Another added: ‘I can’t believe Hayden used chips from a packet in a really simple dish when everyone else is making stuff from scratch. Isn’t that the point of MasterChef?’

Upon presenting his dish, judges Jock Zonfrillo, Andy Allen and Melissa Leong asked Hayden, 34, whether he made the corn chips from scratch.

‘No, they were up on the pantry,’ he responded.

The judges suggested that a homemade variety would have taken the dish to another level, alongside a hotter sauce.
