Cher Lloyd reveals she refused to fake celebrity romance

Cher Lloyd has revealed that she refused to fake a romance with a fellow celebrity in order to boost her profile at the height of her singing career.

The 26-year-old claims that bosses at her record label had put pressure on her to stage a relationship with another famous face, but she did not like the idea of this at all.

‘They gave me a few suggestions but it was just a crazy thing to ask,’ she said, recalling the idea.

‘Sadly it still happens. That’s still happening in this day and age – that it’s still ok to try to make a young girl do something like that to boost a career.’

She added to The Sun: ‘I am never going to be that girl, I was never going to be that girl.

‘It’s not my thing to do a publicity stunt, it’s messy, I’m not interested. Plus, I was married.’

Cher has been married to hairdresser Craig Monk since 2013, and she revealed that although he may be perceived as a ‘normal guy’, she still loves him after all these years.

‘I’ve been married for seven years and I love him,’ she explained. ‘Ok yeah, he is a normal guy, whatever you want to call normal, but you can’t help who you fall for.

‘I’m sorry to big music heads that I didn’t marry a very successful celebrity to make money for them.’

It comes after Cher had previously expressed fears over her dad’s health, after she revealed he had been hospitalised twice during the coronavirus pandemic due to his pre-existing health conditions.

The singer said that the ‘hardest’ thing about being in lockdown is not being able to be there for her family.

‘I miss my mum and dad a lot… my dad hasn’t been well for a long time and the idea of not being able to be close is a really scary thought,’ she told House Of Solo.

‘He’s actually in been in hospital twice during the lockdown with his pre-existing conditions and every single time I get the phone call, I ask myself, is this going to be because of his pre-existing condition or is this going to be the call that I’m dreading?’
