A BBC weatherman has gone to extra lengths to keep people entertained during his report from home.

BBC North West’s Owain Wyn Evans posted a video of himself playing the drums alongside the BBC News theme moments after finishing a weather report.

The 36-year-old shared the footage today and it has already received more than 42,000 likes and 10,000 retweets.

In the clip the weatherman can be seen finishing off a weather forecast. He says: ‘That’s the forecast, stay safe and I’ll see you soon.’

He then dashes off screen before reappearing sat behind a drum set, in his suit.

The BBC News theme song can be heard and Owain hilariously starts playing his drums to accompany the music.

The drumming lasts for the entire theme song and ends with Owain crashing his drumsticks down in time with the final beat.

Owain’s performance was loved by people on Twitter.

His BBC colleague Simon McCoy said: ‘On #BBCNews at 1450 today – maybe – just maybe – we’ll be featuring a bit of live drumming… #saynomore’

Guardian columnist Owen Jones said the performance was ‘absolutely iconic.’

While @PaulCarmichaelV commented: ‘Oh, that was bloody brilliant. Absolutely loved it. You’re a proper breath of fresh air Owain and I think Dianne would be proud knowing the North West weather was in such good hands. That was just what I needed. Thank you.

This isn’t the first time that the BBC theme song has been the subject of an online trend.

Beauty and make-up influencer Rachel Leary, 22, from Surrey, became an internet sensation after she hosted her own homemade rave using the BBC News theme.

Her kitchen performance was accompanied by flashing lights and cans of Febreeze.

The YouTuber who has 624,000 subscribers posted her video on TikTok and it was shared millions of times.
