Pooch Perfect: Hiring Rebel Wilson hasn’t paid off for Seven as the show flops

Seven’s ruff investment: Rebel Wilson’s Pooch Perfect has lost 58 per cent of its audience since the premiere as the show continues to lose viewers

Channel Seven took a huge gamble tapping homegrown Hollywood talent Rebel Wilson to host its new dog show, Pooch Perfect.

But since the season premiere in late February, the show has lost 58 per cent of its viewers, dropping to all-time low on Thursday.

Pooch Perfect’s most recent episode drew in just 259,000 metro viewers while its premiere episode had 624,000.

It is not known how much Channel Seven payed Rebel to appear on the show but with a $16 million net worth, it would not have come cheap.

The network appears to have already lost some faith in the show, having moved it from the primetime 7:30pm slot to the 8:30pm slot on Thursday.

Rebel’s show came dead last in its 8.30pm time slot, beaten by Channel 10’s Gogglebox (759,000), a Nine News COVID-19 special (330,000) and Grand Designs Australia on ABC (309,000).

House Rules: High Stakes replaced Pooch Perfect in its competitive 7:30pm time slot, drawing in 459,000 viewers.

But once Pooch Perfect began airing, 200,00 tuned out to get their entertainment elsewhere.

On Thursday, the dog grooming reality competition will return to its 7:30pm time slot as House Rules moves to a Sunday to Wednesday rotation.

This week’s episode of Pooch Perfect will be the eighth and final episode of the season, which will go up against Channel 10’s Masterchef, Accidental Heroes on Channel Nine and ABC’s ratings juggernaut 7:30.

But given the show’s dismal ratings, the prospect Pooch Perfect returning for a second season does not look promising.

Critical reception for the show has also not been kind with a 3 out of 10 rating on IMDB and a 1.8 out of 5 star score on Google reviews.
