Owen Wilson has never hosted Saturday Night Live because he gets ‘really nervous with public speaking’

Owen Wilson has only appeared once on Saturday Night Live for a quick cameo.

But the Wedding Crashers star has drawn the line at taking on the prestigious guest celebrity hosting gig.

He recently revealed that he’s always been ‘too nervous’ to take it on and that the idea makes him ‘panic.’

The 51-year-old made the confession on the most recent episode of Kevin Nealon’s YouTube series Hiking with Kevin.

Too nervous: Owen Wison revealed on Kevin Nealon’s YouTube series Hiking with Kevin that he’s always been ‘too nervous’ to host Saturday Night Live

He admitted: ‘I get really nervous with public speaking. I’ve never done any of those commencement addresses or Saturday Night Live just because I get too nervous.’

Although he’s never hosted, he did make a brief appearance on Weekend Update in 2016 with Ben Stiller as their Zoolander characters.

Meanwhile, Nealon was a cast member on SNL from 1986 to 1995, serving as Weekend Update anchor from 1991 to 1994.

Wilson revealed that his nerves also apply to red carpets: ‘I feel like it always gives me a bit of panic of, oh, are you going to have the right tie? Where is the cumberbund and cuff links? It just seems a little nerve-wracking.’

He moved to Hollywood with brother Luke Wilson and their friend Wes Anderson, launching their careers with the 1996 film Bottle Rocket.

Owen credits military school for him becoming an actor: ‘It was my roommate at military school who was good friends with Wes Anderson, and that’s how I ended up meeting Wes. So we would’ve never gotten into the entertainment industry.’

The Royal Tenenbaums star went to military school after being expelled from school and found it very restrictive: ‘I got kicked out of school for cheating… I had to ask permission to eat.’

But it appears to have paid off with his acting career, as he’s recently been filming on the Disney+ series Loki and the movie Marry Me with Jennifer Lopez.
