Sacked Network 10 weather presenter Mike Larkan reveals his new career as a real estate auctioneer

Almost a year after he was brutally sacked from his role as a weather presenter at Network 10 in Melbourne, Mike Larkan has revealed he has a new career.

In an interview with the Herald Sun’s realestate.com.au on Sunday, the 57-year-old former TV star revealed he now works as a real estate auctioneer.

Mike said it felt like a natural progression for him, after presenting the weather on Network 10 for almost 25 years.  

‘It was always something that was at the back of my mind,’ he said.

‘I’ve been a radio announcer since I was young, so I can pull together a few words and add a few numbers.’ 

After being unceremoniously dropped from the network in August last year, just hours before he was due to go on air, Mike worked as a real estate sales agent.

He explained he’d obtained his real estate sales license around 10 years ago – around the same time he was completing his wedding celebrant course.

Mike said he now plans on working as both an auctioneer and wedding celebrant, something he never had the time to do while at Network 10. 

‘I do miss [presenting the weather] and I sometimes do it on social media, but I’m really excited about this next chapter,’ he added.

‘I know when I marry couples I often get work because people say they want to be married by Mike Larkan, so I hope they might want me to sell their homes too.’

In an interview with the Herald Sun in August last year, Mike spoke about his shock after being sacked from Network 10.

‘I was caught off guard. I’ll be honest… I was totally surprised when I got the phone call. I just had no idea,’ he said at the time.
