Scarlett Moffatt admits she felt ‘guilty’ for not being happier as she details her loneliness

Scarlett Moffatt has admitted that she felt ‘guilty’ for not being happier as she detailed her loneliness while living in London on her own.

The presenter, 30, appeared on Friday’s This Morning where she opened up about her recent revelation that she felt ‘lost and lonely’ after moving to the capital following her I’m A Celebrity win in 2016.

Scarlett told hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that there was a huge stigma about admitting loneliness and the feeling of ‘failure’ as she spoke about her own experience.

Revealing all: Scarlett Moffatt has admitted that she felt ‘guilty’ for not being happier as she detailed her loneliness while living in London on her own

Discussing how she felt, Scarlett said: ‘I finally found the courage to tell people I was lonely, I think there’s this massive stigma around admitting that you’re lonely because you feel like you’ve failed or you just feel embarrassed.

‘You should never feel embarrassed about being lonely. I hope that by me telling people how lonely I was in London that it opens a conversation where people go “actually yeah, I’m not enjoying myself”.’

Scarlett, who has since become an ambassador for the Samaritans, went on to say: ‘I was just on my own. I didn’t dare tell my family and friends because I’d just won the jungle, I started doing loads of presenting, I felt guilty because I thought I should be on top of the world.

‘I should be really enjoying myself but the truth is, I’d literally walk my dog around Camden, because it’s quite a touristy area, in the hope that people would come up and talk to us!’

On a happier note, the former Gogglebox star discussed her newest TV show Apocalypse Wow, which kicks off on Friday night.

The series sees a clan of five celebrities take on Superhuman ‘Bosses’ in a series of whacky and physical challenges set within a ‘Torture Dome’ in a bid to win some for their chosen charity.

Team Captain Scarlett will be joined by the likes of Chris Hughes, Darren Harriott, Bobby Norris and Kimberley Wyatt, with other famous faces joining in later episodes.

Discussing the show, she said: ‘We all sort of chipped in together, it was honestly more intense than I’m A Celebrity.

‘I thought after I did Gogglebox and I’m A Celebrity, I thought “this is the craziest thing I have ever done” and then I did this show!’

Scarlett went on to explain how TOWIE star Bobby ended up crying tears of pain after being made into a human piñata , with his team mates mistakenly think he was playing up to the cameras.

Describing the error, Scarlett said: ‘I got made captain, which sounded lovely, but I had to make the decision at the end of each episode about who went up in this human piñata.

‘They were strapped, they couldn’t move. It was about 20ft in the air, and the rest of the people in the show had these harness things and we would jump and whack the human piñata.

‘Poor Bobby Norris, we thought he was crying and playing up to the cameras – and he wasn’t. And now I feel bad, because I was laughing while I was hitting him. I think he was really in pain.’

Apocalypse Wow begins Friday at 10pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. This Morning continues weekdays from 10am on ITV.
