A customer has made a skin-crawling discovery after they opened a bag of baby spinach from Woolworths. 

The Queensland shopper had the shock of his life when he was greeted with a live spider inside a bag of fresh baby spinach, bought from his local Woolworths in Wilsonton, Toowoomba.

A photo shared to Facebook shows the giant brown and black spider inside the bag of fresh produce.

The customer wrote: ‘Purchased from Woolies. Who wants some protein in their pesticide-free salad?

‘I’m not mad, Woolies. Proves the veggies are managed well!

Facebook users seemed to agree the surprising find was ‘a good thing’. 

‘Shows how good the produce is, pesticide-free, when you go to add spinach to your dinner and find a live spider in the packet,’ one user wrote.

‘Let’s not go crazy and boycott Woolies now folks. This is a pretty good thing.’  

It is understood the man had no issues with his surprise guest and did not lodge a complaint to the store. 

Woolworths told the Daily Mail that they were aware of a report on social media. 

‘We treat food safety seriously and would encourage the customer to contact their local store, so we can look into the matter with our supply partners.’

‘If ever our customers are concerned about product quality or safety, we encourage them to return it to their local store or contact our Customer Hub for a refund or replacement.’
