Ex-Yankees player Bronson Sardinha is arrested ‘for July 4 DUI’

Ex-Yankees player Bronson Sardinha is arrested ‘for July 4 DUI’ – after at least 15 prior arrests or citations for drunk driving, traffic violations and harassment since 2011

Retired baseball player Bronson Sardinha was arrested in Hawaii on suspicion of drunk driving over Fourth of July weekend as he prepares to stand before the State Supreme Court on allegations that he punched a police officer in 2015.

Sardinha was arrested shortly after midnight Sunday, according to Honolulu police records. The 38-year-old posted bail and was released. Sardinha and an attorney who has represented him previously didn’t immediately return messages from The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The Honolulu native played in only 10 Major League games with the New York Yankees in 2007 after a lengthy minor league career.

In 2015, he was arrested on charges he collided with a car, fled the scene and assaulted a Honolulu police officer, according to court records.

He entered a no-contest plea to fleeing the scene on the day he was indicted for the assault. A judge granted his motion to dismiss the assault case, but an appeals court vacated the order. The Hawaii Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case next week.

Since retiring in 2011, Sardinha has been cited or arrested on more than 10 occasions, mostly for traffic violations.

The Yankees drafted the Kamehameha Schools graduate as the 34th overall pick in 2001, according to MLB.com. The outfielder mostly played for the Yankees’ minor league teams from 2001 to 2007, and for other teams in the minor leagues until 2011.

He was cut by the Yankees in 2007 to make room for the return of pitcher Andy Pettitte, who was coming out of retirement at the time.
