Sam Armytage is tipped to join the new season of Dancing with the Stars after stepping down from her role as Sunrise host

Samantha Armytage is rumoured to be joining the upcoming season of Channel Seven’s Dancing with the Stars.

According to New Idea on Monday, the 44-year-old former Sunrise host is a frontrunner to compete on the next season.

A production source told the magazine Sam had made the producers’ ‘shortlist’.

They added that the addition of Sam to the program would be ‘ratings gold’.

Sam stepped down from her role as co-host of breakfast show Sunrise in March, after eight years at the helm alongside David ‘Kochie’ Koch.

She was replaced a week later by longtime newsreader Natalie Barr.

‘They still see Sam as a big star and [Seven] think there’s real potential in her entering prime time,’ added the source.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Seven for comment.

It comes after Sam reportedly angered Seven bosses last month by tweeting that Natalie, 53, had wanted her job on Sunrise ‘forever’.

The tweet apparently ‘went down like a lead balloon’ at Seven, a source told The Australian.

‘When she left Sunrise, Sam said she wanted to get away from the attention. But the only one creating the attention around her is Sam,’ the insider said.

‘And her accusation that Nat wanted the job “forever” is so untrue. She never did.’
