An adorable golden retriever has been filmed imitating a dolphin while playing fetch in a lake.

In footage shared online, two-year-old Quincy can be seen eagerly waiting for his green squishy ball to thrown as he treads water in Willoughby Lake, Vermont.

As he hunts down his toy, he takes seven consecutive leaps from the water in what appears to be a hilarious dolphin impression.

The young pup was playing with his owner Karen York and her family when he performed the bizarre trick.

‘When he did it we thought that fits his personality to a T.’

Golden retrievers are among the most popular breeds of dog for families, particularly in the US.

They are known for being eager-to-please while having a joyous and playful approach to life.

According to the American Kennel Club, golden retrievers carry their puppyish behaviour into adulthood and love to play outdoors.

The organisation ranked the breed as the most popular in the US in 2020.

Footage of another golden retriever went viral in April for showing the heart-warming bond between the dog and its owner’s newborn baby girl.

Another retriever broke hearts around the world back in January for refusing to leave its owner’s side as he slept with a ventilator.
