Two policemen are filmed parking in a bus zone on a busy Sydney street so one could grab a pork roll from a nearby shop – but Australians are divided about whether it’s wrong

A video of two policemen parking in a busy Sydney bus zone while one buys a pork roll from a bakery across the road has divided opinion online.
The Sydney Name and Shame Facebook group posted the video showing the Highway Patrol car parked in a bus zone on Forest Road at Hurstville, in Sydney’s south.
One officer waits with the car while the other is filmed buying a roll from the King’s Hot Bread bakery across the road.

‘Here he is, got his lunch, good to go now,’ the man filming said as the officer returned to the car

‘Your parked in a bus zone so your mate over there can get his hot roll,’ the man filming the video says to the officer at the car.
‘You told me once, the reason you’re parked in a bus zone with your lights on is so your mate over there can get his hot roll … his pork roll. Look at him,’ the man filming says.
‘Here he is, got his lunch, good to go now,’ the man says as the other officer returns with this lunch from the bakery.
The man then asks whether he will be subject to ‘retaliation’ from the officer for filming him, before saying, ‘Good work officer, good luck out there.’
He ends by claiming the officers are above the law and were obstructing cars and buses.
While many commenting on the post agreed with the videographer’s objection to the policemen’s parking, many defended their action.
‘They can only park illegally when attending emergency or their duty,’ wrote one person. ‘Getting lunch is not one of them. We get a penalty notice for doing the same, they should too.’
But another person was among many who pointed out police may be called to an emergency at a moment’s notice.
‘What if they have a call out? What if you needed them in a hurry?
‘And for the muppet who filmed this, you would be the first person screaming and complaining if you were told, just wait please, officers are walking back to their car.’
Approached by Daily Mail Australia, NSW Police would not comment on the video.
