Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have announced that they’re leaving This Morning for the summer, with the duo hosting their final show on Friday.

The funny pair, who took over the end-of-week slot in January, are now stepping away from the ITV hit until September.

Phillip Schofield, 59, and Holly Willoughby, 40, will present all of the shows next week and then Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, both 61, will take the reigns.

See you in September! Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have announced that they’re leaving This Morning for the summer, with the duo hosting their final show on Friday

From Monday 12 July, Eamonn and Ruth will be presenting each week in the summer, including the Friday episode.

Speaking about their exit on Friday, Dermot, 48, and Alison, 46, seemed cheery and made the most of their last couple of hours on the TV together.

Dermot said: ‘Lovely of you to join us. I’m very excited today because it’s our last show of the season, isn’t it?’

While Alison smiled as she replied: ‘I know, we’ll be back in September.’

Speaking in May, Alison admitted it took two months before she and Dermot ‘became comfortable’ with each other on This Morning.

The pair revealed they had to have ‘private chats’ to iron out what they didn’t like about each other’s presenting styles.

The former Big Brother star believes their partnership on the show works because they were ‘so honest with each other’ in the first few months and compared the collaboration to an ‘arranged marriage’.

Speaking to Lorraine alongside Alison, Dermot admitted they barely had any time to get used to each other’s nuances.

Alison said: ‘We literally were thrown together, like an arranged marriage. It took about two months before we became comfortable.’

Dermot added: ‘When you start a show and you start with someone they normally go, “Oh you need to meet so and so. This is the person we’re thinking about pairing you with.”

‘You go out for lunch or you have a meeting. But this was literally like, “You’re on air in half an hour.”

‘When you’re co-presenting, it takes a while to get to know those nuances and those little beats, “I’m going to talk now or you’re going to talk now.”

‘You find out about each other’s sense of humour, what you like about each other, what you don’t like about each other and those things take about two months.’

Alison, who has been presenting on This Morning for 18 years after rising to fame on Big Brother in 2002, said: ‘But we told each other what we don’t like, we were so honest with each other and I think that’s why it worked.

‘We had a few private chats, “I don’t like this about you,” and, “Well I don’t like this when you do such and such.”

Elsewhere on their final show until September on Friday, Alison shared the moment she fell over in her garden in the rain while wearing no underwear.

The presenter was left red-face as she revealed she ended up flashing her CCTV system while taking a tumble.

Alison explained that she had wanted to enjoy the torrential rain in the UK last week, so stepped out onto her patio tiles, but slipped over and cut open her leg – all while baring all on camera.

The unfortunate fall occurred last Friday after Alison had finished filming the ITV daytime show.

She had been sitting under the pergola in her garden when it started rain and decided to embrace the downpour.

Alison – who was seen with a huge bandage on her leg – recalled: ‘I was chilling out under the pergola… I started walking out, had the rain in my face and something terrible happened.’

‘This is my CCTV, then what happens… I slip,’ she confessed, before revealing why the footage show on This Morning had a heart covering Alison below the waist.

She laughed: ‘The reason why there is a little heart there is because I like to chill out and take all my underwear off, so there’s a little heart there to cover my modesty.

‘It was quite a bad fall you know, it’s raining, it’s full on, I can’t get up because I think I’ve broken my leg.

‘My brother comes out to try and help me out, his bottom is all over CCTV. He can’t lift me up because obviously I’m quite big. He helps me up, I eventually use the bad leg and then totter inside.’

Alison admitted that the whole experience was traumatic and joked that she was unable to show a photo of her injured leg as it wasn’t appropriate ‘pre-watershed’.

Dermot seemed to agree as he said he was horrified after noticing the wound on Alison’s leg, as they arrived ahead of their live broadcast this morning.
