Sandra Oh takes on the prickly world of academia in first teaser for the Netflix dramedy The Chair

Sandra Oh is set to star in the lead role of a new dramedy series The Chair.

And Netflix gave fans a taste of what’s to come in the first official teaser on Wednesday.

Oh plays Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the first female and woman of color to lead the English department, and all of its high demands and expectations, at the fictional Pembroke University.

The project was written and produced by Amanda Peet, who also serves as showrunner.

Game Of Thrones famed creators, producers and writers – David Benioff and D.B. Weiss –  are also producing, in what turns out to be the first series as part of their $200 million, multi-year deal with Netflix.

The trailer opens with steady orchestral music setting a tone of prestige and honor.

It then kicks off with Dr. Kim seemingly arriving for her first day of work on campus; slowly making her way up the walkways leading into the snow-covered university.

Once inside, Dr. Kim continues her way through the hallowed halls until she briefly pauses in front of her new office to marvel at her name plaque -Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, Chair, Department of English – on the door.

And although Oh’s character doesn’t utter one single word in the sneak peak, the nameplate left as a wrapped gift on her desk speaks loudly to what viewers can expect from her and the series.

‘F**ker in charge of you f***ing f**ks,’ it reads, which garners are sly grin from Dr. Kim that transforms into a smile.

She then proceeds to sit down with pride at her large desk to try it on for size as the chorus of orchestral music plays with prominence.

But just as she starts to survey the room, looking as though she’s pondering all the hard work and successes she endured to get this this point, the left arm rest on the chair breaks off and she falls to the floor.
