Garbage man destroys a recycling bin in disastrous recycling pickup

Rubbish behaviour! Garbage man destroys a recycling bin by smashing it into the top of the truck then crushing it as he tries to turn it up the right way

  • Garbageman was left red-faced by comical bin collection effort in Adelaide
  • Garbo managed to empty the rubbish into the truck – but trouble then followed
  • The worker then crushed the bin with a yellow lid after trying to leave it upright

A rubbish collector spectacularly failed to pick up a recycling bin by breaking it against his truck, then crushing it when he tried to put it upright.

Mortifying CCTV footage showed the truck in Adelaide approach a house before emptying the bin into a truck using the mechanical grabber.

But as the recycling is poured into the truck, the top of it is smashed into the truck with debris flying on to the driveway.

The job started simply enough for the garbo – with the garbage ready to be collected in suburban Adelaide

Not noticing the carnage, the truck begins to drive away but then realises the bin is not standing upright.

Seconds later, the garbo inexplicably crushes the bin twice as he tries and fails to pick it up and turn it the right way up, and then quickly drives away.

A number of people were quick to comment on the comical scenes via social media.

‘Get out of the truck and fix it,’ one wrote.

By contrast, another garbage truck driver in Victoria earnt plaudits earlier this month after going above and beyond the call of duty.

After placing the rubbish inside the bin, the garbo then had an easy task - place the bin back where he found it

Taylor Ross Hampton, who lives in Baranduda, in country Victoria, captured the moment a local Cleanaway driver stopped his truck, reversed and came down the driveway when he realised Mr Hampton had forgotten to put out his recycling bin.

‘I was at home on a Zoom call for work and I saw the truck pull up but I couldn’t leave the call,’ Mr Hampton told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I went out and checked and the bin was already out at the kerb.

‘Then I checked the cameras and saw he’d stopped, come back, got the bin from down the driveaway and took it out.’

Mr Hampton was highly impressed, and contacted his local Wodonga Council and Cleanaway to praise the garbo, later identified as ‘driver Phil.’
