He was issued an infringement notice for a $2,520 fine and six demerit points.

His licence was also suspended for six months on the spot, and his registration plates seized for three months.

Officers were listening to British rock band the classic 1979 rock tune by The Clash while making the traffic stop.

NSW Police traffic and highway patrol warned that Mt Panorama, where the annual Bathhurst 1000 car race is held, is ‘not a racetrack’ day to day.

‘It is a public road with a 60km/h speed limit where people reside, businesses operate, and pedestrians walk,’ police said.

‘It is only a racetrack when it is closed to the public and authorised to be a racetrack.’
