Two brothers claim they have set the new record for walking the longest highline at Yosemite National Park.

Moises and Daniel Monterrubio, both from San Francisco, earlier this month with a group of friends spent six days stringing a single long line from Taft Point all the way west past a chain of gulleys plunging over 1,600 feet, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The line itself was over 2,800 feet long.

‘It was pretty intense and dangerous. But we made it happen,’ Monterrubio told the Chronicle.

Daniel and Moises Monterrubio had been planning on setting the record for the longest highline at Yosemite National Park for over a year and accomplished the feat with the help of dozens of friends and fellow highliners

The Monterrubio brothers had been aspiring to set the new record over the past year. The two have been training to become rope-access technicians.

Highlining as a sport has gained popularity over the past decade and made its way into the mainstream with gear brands, sponsorships and even athletes. How it’s defined is high-altitude slacklining, where a webbing is strung between two points to act as a balance beam to be walked across.

The longest highline walked in Yosemite – 954 feet – before the Monterrubio brothers set their sites on the record extended from Taft Point all the way to anchor east.

The one that they set? Almost three times that length.

Once they finally had their anchors set to go between a two boulders and and an old tree trunk, the two brothers received permission from park officials to advance.

The morning of June 10 with the sun setting off in the distance, the line was ready and the brothers made their voyage across.

23-year-old Daniel was the first to go and fell three to four times before he eventually made it to the end. Moises would also end up falling, only he did it twice before making it past.

An elated Moises revealed the most rewarding part of the journey, was seeing ‘all my friends at the anchor excited about just having it done’.

After the brothers’ friends took turns walking the line over a four-day span, Moises and his mentor, Eugen Cepoi walked the entire line for 37 minutes without falling.
