Touching moment garbage truck driver reverses after noticing a man forgot to take out his bin

‘I owe him a six-pack of beer’: Touching moment garbage truck driver stops to take out an overflowing bin after noticing the homeowner had forgotten to take it out

  • Taylor Ross Hampton forgot to put out his recycling bin while on a work call
  • His CCTV captured local garbo ‘Phil’ stopping and reversing his truck
  • The kindly garbo then collected the bin from the house and took it to the kerb
  • Mr Hampton, of Baranduda, Victoria, plans to reward Phil with a sixpack of beer

A small act of kindness captured on a man’s home CCTV has showed a local garbage truck driver going above and beyond the call of duty.

Taylor Ross Hampton, who lives in Baranduda, a small satellite suburb of Wodonga in country Victoria, captured the moment the local Cleanaway driver stopped his truck, reversed and came down the driveway when he realised Mr Hampton had forgotten to put out his recycling bin.

‘I was at home on a Zoom call for work and I saw the truck pull up but I couldn’t leave the call,’ Mr Hampton told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I was like, ahh, sh**, so I went out and checked and the bin was already out at the kerb.

A friend of Mr Hampton's on Facebook identified the garbo as Cleanaway driver 'Phil'

‘Then I checked the cameras and saw he’d stopped, come back, got the bin from down the driveaway and took it to the kerb.’

Mr Hampton called Cleanaway and Wodonga Council to give his feedback on the garbo’s random act of kindness.

He also posted the video to his Facebook page with the words, ‘Shoutout to this legend! Might be something small but it definitely didn’t go unnoticed.’

A Facebook friend of Mr Hampton’s then told him the driver’s name is Phil.

Mr Hampton now plans to drop off a six pack of beer to his friend to pass on to Phil as thanks.

‘Phil probably never gave it a second thought,’ Mr Hampton said.

‘He just did it because he thought he should, but these are the people who we should give thanks and gratitude for because they go out of their way just for the sake of doing it, not for the love of the job.

‘It’s small but it’s important and made a big difference to my day.’
